Worksheet Description
The hand-lettering lowercase alphabet is truly the foundation and starting point for any new calligraphy artist. There are many fonts out there, but lowercase is the most basic and essential to learn if you wish to break into the world of hand-lettering. This guide is also great for seasoned lettering artists, providing a helpful refresher and reference to polish up your style of calligraphy lowercase letters.
The lowercase hand-lettering alphabet is a Heinen Designs original, drawing on many elements of traditional calligraphy, while exploring new possibilities. The font is both elegant and sophisticated, unafraid to show its adventurous side through thin upstrokes, thick downstrokes and imaginative curves and flourishes.
This printable beginner hand-lettering practice sheets PDF contains seven pages total. The pages can be printed off as many times as you like or copied into a digital program, such as Procreate. It features the complete lowercase hand-lettering alphabet, walking through each stoke and providing plenty of space for you to practice. It also includes practice words, all in lowercase, to let you try your new skill in real time.
Hand-lettering – especially using the lowercase font – is one of those activities you can carry with you your entire life. Whether you’re taking notes, writing a message of encouragement, contemplating your day or crafting handmade gifts, there’s never a bad time to put hand-lettering to good use. If you prefer digital, you can drop each page as a new layer into an art program like Procreate. Follow along by lettering over the top of the image.

Recommended Pen Types for Lowercase Brush Lettering
For this lowercase calligraphy font, the recommended pen type is a brush pen or calligraphy pen, ideally one with a longer, bendier nib or tip. A standard ballpoint pen or gel pen will not work well because this alphabet contains brush letters. You need to be able to vary the line thickness or each stroke and a brush pen or calligraphy is built for that exact purpose.
